We are situated at 77/3 Santoshpur Avenue in Kolkata. This is one of the Public Works Department offices for the Govt. of West Bengal. If you come by, you'll see a lot of activity, mostly people coming in to check on tenders or reporting issues with the local roads. The office itself is nothing special. It’s functional, with plenty of wooden desks and cupboards full of records. We focus on the everyday maintenance that keeps the Santoshpur area moving. Sometimes it’s a blocked sewer and other times it’s a project to patch up the main avenue. We don’t have a lot of time for fancy talk. We just try to manage the work as best as we can with the resources we have. Kolkata weather can be tough on the infrastructure, especially during the monsoon months when everything seems to break at once. We are just a group of staff members who have lived here a long time. We know which streets flood and which ones need constant care. It’s not a glamorous life, but it is necessary. We handle the paperwork, talk to the contractors, and try to keep things on track. There are always delays and there are always more things to fix than we have people for. We just show up and do what we can every day from this little office. It’s just how things work here.
