Pragati Electric Co

Our little shop, G 1, is tucked away at 22B on Rabindra Sarani, right near Chittaranjan Avenue. It’s an old part of the city and we’ve been part of it for a long time. We deal with all sorts of electrical bits—switches, wires, bulbs, you name it. The shelves are packed pretty high with boxes, and sometimes it takes a minute to find exactly the right fuse or connector in the back, but we usually have it somewhere. Pragati Electric has been a name around here for years. It’s a small space, so things are piled up, but that’s just how we work and it seems to suit us. The noise from the street is constant with the horns and people shouting, but we’re used to it after all this time. People from the neighborhood stop by for a single lightbulb or a whole roll of wire for a renovation project they're doing. We don't do much fancy marketing; the sign outside is enough for people to know we are here. It’s a family-run kind of feel, even if it’s just a couple of us behind the counter most days. Working on Rabindra Sarani means you see everyone who passes by. We enjoy the talk with the regulars who have been coming to us since they were kids. It’s honest work, keeping the lights on for the folks around Chittaranjan Avenue. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever needs a hand with their wiring. There’s always a glass of water for anyone who walks in out of the heat.
