Divya Lights is tucked away on the ground floor at 4A Pollock Street. We are pretty close to the Tea Board, so there are always people walking around looking for a quick break or heading to meetings. The street gets crowded during the day with all the delivery trucks and people trying to find parking. Inside the shop, it’s mostly just us surrounded by different kinds of lights. The ground floor spot makes it easy for people to just wander in without having to climb any stairs. Pollock Street has its own character, a bit old and messy but full of life. We spend the mornings dusting the glass and checking the bulbs. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit in the dark for a bit talking about the news. It’s a small space but we make it work. Most of our day is spent helping folks figure out what kind of light they need for their home or office. It is not a shiny showroom. It feels more like a workshop sometimes with boxes stacked in the corners. The Tea Board area is always busy, so we hear the honking and the shouting from the street all day long. It is just how it is in this part of the city. We have been at this address for a while now. It feels like home even when the rain leaks a little under the door and we have to mop up.
