We’ve been in this building for quite some time. The stairs are a bit steep and the walls have that old-fashioned look, but it suits us. We are an associate firm, so we deal with various clients and paperwork throughout the day. It’s often quite humid here, so the air conditioner is our best friend during the summer months. You’ll hear the sounds of the street outside—taxis honking and people shouting—but inside we try to keep things focused. We don't have a corporate handbook or a list of values on the wall. We just focus on doing the work that comes across our desks. Some days it’s a lot of filing, other days it’s meetings that go on much longer than they should. We have a small team and we’ve all worked together for years. We know who likes their tea with extra sugar and who prefers it black. It’s a comfortable place to work. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want to help our clients and get home in time for dinner. That is the reality of life at Pelican Associates. We just take things one day at a time here in Kolkata. It’s a busy city but we find our own rhythm in it and keep things moving.
