S. K. Leather

S. K. Leather is based out in Garia Panchpota, specifically in the Police Para neighborhood. If you come by, you’ll probably smell the leather before you see the sign. It’s a strong scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't even notice it anymore. The workspace is filled with scraps of material and various tools. We have a couple of heavy machines that make a lot of thumping noises throughout the day. It’s not a quiet place to work, but the noise means we’re getting things done. We work with our hands quite a bit, cutting and stitching. There’s always a layer of fine dust on the windows. We have a small table in the back where we take our lunch breaks. The floor is concrete and a bit uneven in places. We’ve been at this for a while, so the routine is pretty much set. We don’t spend money on fancy uniforms or anything like that; we just wear what’s comfortable for the work. Sometimes a stray dog wanders in and sleeps in the shade near the door. We just leave it be. It’s a simple setup. We focus on the items we’re making and try to finish them on time. It’s hard work on the back and hands, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and stay busy. The lights flicker sometimes when we turn on the big machines, but that's just how the wiring is here.
