Paddy Rice

It’s usually pretty loud around here on Park Street. We have been running Paddy Rice for a while now, just trying to keep things moving. Most days start with opening the shutters and checking what needs to get done before the afternoon rush kicks in. It is a small place, nothing fancy, just some desks and a lot of talk about grain. People come in and out, asking about prices or just stopping by because they know where we are. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know how the rice trade works in this part of the city. Sometimes the fans don't work right and it gets hot, but we manage. You can see the traffic outside from the window and it never really stops. We deal with suppliers and try to make sure everything is sorted out on time. It is a lot of paperwork and phone calls, really. Some days are slower than others, but there is always something to sweep or a ledger to update. We have been at this address for years, so the neighbors all know us by name. It’s just a normal business day, every day, nothing too special about it, but it’s what we do. We like the routine of it all, even when the rain makes the street messy. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but we haven't found the time yet. We keep the tea kettle going in the back for when visitors show up to talk shop.
