We have been at P 41 Princep Street for a long time now. It is easy to find us because we are right opposite the old Orient Cinema. That landmark has helped a lot of people find our door over the years. Overseas Shipping Agency is a small place filled with stacks of papers and old folders. This part of Kolkata is always humming with noise from the traffic and the shops nearby. We handle shipping, which involves a lot of coordinating with people at the ports and checking on where containers are. It is not a glamorous job. Most of the day is spent sitting at a desk and making sure the documents are correct. If one paper is wrong, everything stops, so we have to be very careful with the details. You can hear the horns honking outside all day long on Princep St. Sometimes it is so loud we have to shout a bit on the phone just to be heard. We don't have fancy air conditioning in every corner, just a couple of fans that keep the air moving. We know most of the other business owners on this street. It is a tight community. People come in with their shipping problems and we just try to sort them out one by one. There is no big corporate structure here, just a few of us who know the shipping business well. We just keep our heads down and do the work.
