Down on D.H. Road in Kolkata, you’ll find us at 743. It is a loud part of the city, with the sound of horns and engines pretty much constant throughout the day. We handle logistics, which basically means we spend our lives around trucks and shipping crates. The office isn't much to look at—just some old desks, a few chairs, and calendars on the wall. We’ve got dust from the road coming in through the windows, and the tea guy comes by a couple of times a day to keep us going. Moving freight through Kolkata isn't for the faint of heart. You have to know which roads are blocked and how to talk to the drivers who have been on the road for days. We don't use a lot of big words or have fancy meetings. We just look at the manifest, check the crates, and make sure the wheels are turning. Some days everything goes wrong—a tire blows or a permit is missing—and we just have to sit there and figure it out. It’s a gritty job and your hands might get a bit dirty, but it's what we know how to do. We’ve been on D.H. Road for a long time and we’ve seen businesses come and go, but the need to move stuff from point A to point B never really changes. We just keep the trucks moving as best as we can.
