Nortaks Jk Exim Private Limited is located on the second floor of 7A Bentinck Street. If you’ve ever walked down Bentinck Street in Kolkata, you know how packed it is with shops selling shoes and musical instruments. Our office is in Room No- 215. It’s one of those classic old buildings with high ceilings and a staircase that has seen better days. We work in the export and import business. A lot of our time is spent talking to people over the phone and filling out forms for the government. It’s not exactly exciting work, but it’s necessary for trade. The room is a bit cramped because we have so many files from over the years, but we know where everything is. We don't use any fancy software to manage our relationships; we just remember people’s names and what they need. Sometimes the street noise from below gets quite loud, but we just shut the windows and keep going. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall. We just want to make sure the goods we are responsible for get where they are going without any trouble. It’s a small operation, just a few of us sitting around desks. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about whatever is happening in the city. We’ve been here for a good while and have seen the street change, but our little office stays pretty much the same. It is just plain work.
