We've been at Room 227 on Crooked Lane for a while now. It’s on the second floor, a bit of a climb but you get used to it after a few days of working here. Kolkata is a busy place and this lane is no exception. We mostly just keep our heads down and handle the day-to-day stuff that comes through the door. It’s not a big fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. Just a regular room with some desks and paper piled up. People around here know us for being quiet and just getting the work done. Sometimes the stairs get a bit dusty, and the noise from the street downstairs drifts up, but it’s home for the business. We deal with goods, as the name says, and there’s always something to organize or ship out. It gets pretty humid in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going. It’s a small team, mostly just a few of us making sure everything is in the right place. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything. We just talk to the people who call or drop by. Crooked Lane has a lot of history and we are just a small part of it right now. It feels right being in this part of town, close to everything but tucked away on the second floor. Sometimes we grab tea from the stall downstairs. It's just a normal job in a normal part of the city.
