Mechtech Industries

Our workshop is down Durgapur Lane at No 1/1A, which is right near the Durgapur Bridge. You can hear the heavy trucks rumbling overhead all day long, making the windows rattle a little bit in their frames. Mechtech Industries is really just a large shed with a concrete floor and a lot of heavy metal parts scattered around. It’s always a bit dark inside, even during the day, so we have these big hanging lights that buzz. There is a constant smell of oil and burnt metal because that’s just what we do here. My clothes usually have some grease on them by noon, and there’s no point in trying to keep the place perfectly clean. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The door is a big rolling shutter that gets stuck if you don't pull it just right. Outside, the lane is narrow and sometimes gets blocked by delivery vans, which leads to a lot of shouting and horn honking. We have a small desk in the corner covered in greasy papers and old invoices. When it rains, the sound on the metal roof is so loud we have to shout to hear each other. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but it’s what we know. We don't have a fancy office, just the workshop and the tools we use every single day to get the jobs done near the bridge.
