This nursing home is tucked away on Chatu Babu Lane, specifically at 2B/H/10A in Kolkata-14. It is a bit of a crowded street, and we are located care of Salma Khatoon’s place. It’s not one of those massive hospitals that look like a hotel. Instead, it’s a more personal space where things are a bit more lived-in. We spend our days looking after the people who come through our doors, making sure they have their medicine and that they are as comfortable as they can be. The hallways aren't very wide, and you can always hear the sound of the ceiling fans humming along. It’s a lot of work for the staff, and sometimes the nights get long when someone is feeling unwell, but we just keep at it because that is the job. We don’t have any big marketing teams or glossy brochures. We just have our rooms, our small medical station, and the daily routine of checking vitals and talking to families. The neighborhood is quite lively, so there is always some noise from outside, but we try to keep the inside as calm as possible for the patients. It’s a practical place for people who need some care, and we do our best with what we have. It’s about the people here, not about having the fanciest building in the city. We just take it shift by shift and try to be helpful.
