You can find us at 11/A, Chowringhee Terrace, right on Gokhale Road. The name of the business is a bit of a mouthful, Manufacturers Representatives & Selling Agents, but it basically means we help bridge the gap between people who make things and people who want to buy them. We’ve been operating out of this part of Kolkata for a long time. It’s an old building with high ceilings and that specific smell of old paper and city air. We spend a lot of time on the phone or sitting across from people talking about orders. We aren't the ones in the factories, but we know exactly what's happening there. Our job is to make sure the right products get to the right stores or warehouses. It involves a lot of coordinating and sometimes a bit of arguing when things don't go as planned. It’s not a fancy job. We have desks piled with catalogs and invoices. We know the local markets well and we know which manufacturers are reliable. People come to us because we’ve been around the block and we don't sugarcoat things. If a delivery is going to be late, we tell you. We don't have a big corporate structure here. It’s just a few of us making sure the wheels of trade keep turning in our small corner of the world. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening.
