Maintenance Engineer

Out here in Brisha, Kolkata, at 68/9 Purbo Para, is where I do my maintenance engineering work. Kolkata is a big city but this little corner is where I feel at home. I’ve been fixing things for a long time. Mostly it’s mechanical stuff, keeping the local equipment running so folks can go about their business. The humidity in West Bengal really does a number on metal, so I’m always busy with maintenance. It’s not a glamorous job. My hands are usually stained with oil and the shop smells like old iron and grease. I don't use a lot of fancy words to describe what I do. I just look at the problem and try to find a solution that works and doesn't cost too much. The address at Purbo Para is where I keep my lathes and drills. It’s a bit cramped because I tend to keep old parts just in case I need them later. You never know when a specific screw from ten years ago will come in handy. Sometimes my son helps me out when he's not at school. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything. People just hear about me from their neighbors and show up at the door. It’s a simple way to live and work. I like the routine of it. Every morning I open up the shop and see what the day brings. It’s just how things go around here. Some days are long, but that’s fine. We just handle the repairs one by one.
