Shakti Traders

Shakti Traders is based at 34/1 Mahatma Gandhi Road. It is one of the busiest streets you can imagine. We are on the 1st floor in Room No 27. The building is old and there are many other traders like us working in the same hallway. It is a very small room and we have it filled to the ceiling with our stock. There is hardly enough space for more than two people to sit. We have been in this spot for a very long time. The wooden counter we use is worn down from years of use. We do a lot of our business over the phone and with the people who walk in from the market. MG Road is always full of energy and noise. You can hear the trams and the vendors all day long. We don't have air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that works hard in the summer. We keep our records in thick registers. We haven't moved everything to computers because we like the old way better. It feels more reliable to us. We drink several cups of tea every day from the vendor downstairs. Sometimes the hallway gets crowded with boxes being moved in and out. It’s a bit chaotic, but that is how trading works in this part of town. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. We just rely on our long-term relationships with other traders. It’s a simple, busy life and we wouldn't have it any other way.
