Lokenath Bags has our workshop and shop over at No. 9 B Choudwri Para Road in the Belgharia Nimta area. It is a bit of a trek if you aren't from this side of town, but for the locals, we are a familiar sight. Making bags of all sorts is what we do. You can hear the sewing machines running almost all day long if you stand outside on the road. It is a rhythmic sound that we have all grown used to. There are piles of fabric everywhere, showing off different colors and textures. Patterns are cut by hand and then moved over to the stitching tables. It isn't a factory with a hundred workers, just a few of us who know how to handle the material. School bags, market bags, and sometimes stuff for local businesses come out of this shop. Dust from the cloth gets into everything, so we are always sweeping up. Nimta is a place where people appreciate things that last, so we try to make things sturdy. Sometimes a customer comes in with a broken zipper or a torn strap, and we just fix it right there while they wait. The road outside can get muddy during the monsoon, making deliveries a bit tricky. We have our regulars who have been buying from us for years. It’s a simple setup. We have our tea breaks, talk about the local news, and keep stitching. A fancy website isn't really our thing; we just focus on the machines.
