Our tannery is right there at 114-F on Matheswartala Road. Being in this part of town means you are always surrounded by the leather industry. It’s not an easy job. At Lian Sheng Tannery, we work with raw skins and turn them into something useful. It involves a lot of water, chemicals, and physical labor. The floors are usually wet and there is a lot of steam and noise from the drums. We don't really have an "office" in the way people think. It’s mostly just part of the factory floor where we keep the desk and a few chairs. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and the methods haven't changed that much. You have to have a feel for the skins to know when they are ready. The workers here have been with us for years, and they know the routine better than anyone. It’s a lot of lifting and moving heavy stacks of leather. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry things properly, so we have to adjust our schedule. It’s a simple life, focused on the output. We don't spend money on fancy signs or advertising. People who need leather know where to find us. We just focus on getting the work done every day and making sure the quality is okay for the buyers who come by. It’s a noisy, smelly, and busy place, but it’s our living and we are used to it.
