Suede And Velvet Co.

We are located in the Press Apartment building on NSB Bose Road. It’s flat number five. Finding us can be a little tricky because the building has a few different entrances, but once you are inside, it is quiet. We deal with fabrics, mostly the softer types like suede and velvet, which is why we picked the name. This isn't a huge showroom with lights and displays. It is more of a working space where we keep our stock and handle orders. Most of the day is spent checking rolls of cloth and making sure the colors are right. We started this because we liked the feel of good materials. Kolkata has a lot of history with textiles, and we wanted to be a small part of that. The apartment is on the fourth floor, so we do a lot of carrying things up and down. It gets dusty, but that's just part of the job when you work with fabric all day. We have a couple of sewing machines in the corner for small repairs or samples. Usually, it is just us and the sound of the scissors. We don't have a big marketing team or anything. People usually hear about us from other shops or neighbors. We drink a lot of tea while we work. It’s a simple life, looking at different textures and sending them out to people who need them for their homes or projects. It’s just us doing what we know, day in and day out, in this old apartment.
