Lord Sinha Road is a busy place, and our spot at 5 A / 1 B is right in the thick of it. Kishorilal Shyamsunder has been functioning out of this location for a long time. It’s one of those older buildings where you can really feel the history of the city when you walk through the door. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, mostly filled with stock that we’ve been sorting through for years. The morning routine is always the same—tea first, then opening the big heavy doors. We see the same people walking past every day, going to their offices or the schools nearby. It’s not a very modern office, we still use some of the old ways of keeping track of things, though we have a computer now too. The floor is a bit uneven in places, and the lights sometimes flicker if the monsoon is heavy. We handle a lot of different requests throughout the day. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, so things aren't always perfectly organized, but we know where everything is. There’s usually a pile of registers on the main desk. It gets hot in the summer months, but the high ceilings help a little bit. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the shop looks to outsiders. We just focus on the orders and making sure the inventory is correct. It's a steady life here on Lord Sinha Road, and we’re quite used to the rhythm of the street and the regulars who pop in.
