Gayatri Plastic

Down on Ratan Sarkar Garden Street, right near the Kalakar Street Post Office, is where we keep Gayatri Plastic going. It’s a busy neighborhood, always people walking by and delivery bikes weaving through. Our place at No. 6 is usually packed to the ceiling with bags, bins, and all sorts of plastic goods. It’s not the most organized looking shop, but we know exactly where the blue buckets are or where the heavy-duty crates are stacked. My family has been doing this for a while. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading trucks right on the street. It’s a lot of physical work, dragging sacks and counting inventory under a dim light. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re too busy moving stock to worry about that. We talk to all kinds of customers, from shopkeepers needing bags to people just looking for a new water jug for their kitchen. There’s no sales pitch here. You just ask what we have, we tell you the price, and that’s it. Sometimes we sit on the plastic stools out front when things get quiet for a minute. It’s a simple life. We deal with the heat and the rain just like everyone else on this street. We’re just here every day, making sure the orders go out to the local markets. It keeps us on our feet and we don't mind the noise much.
