We've been at No. 22 Kalakar Street for a while now. The morning usually starts with sweeping the front and getting the display ready. Silver is heavy, and you really feel it when you’re moving things around. People come in looking for gifts for weddings or just a small coin for a ceremony. It’s a busy street, sometimes the noise from outside makes it hard to hear, but that’s just how it is here. We don’t have fancy air conditioning that works all the time, so the fan stays on high. Sometimes I sit at the counter and just watch the traffic go by while waiting for the next person to walk in. Dealing with silver means checking the prices every day, which is a bit of a chore, but it has to be done. Most of the people who come here are regulars from the neighborhood. They know where we are. We don't really change much around here, the shelves are the same ones from years ago. You get used to the smell of the metal and the way the light hits the coins in the afternoon. It’s just a small shop, nothing too big. We try to keep things organized but sometimes the paperwork piles up on the desk. Kalakar Street is always moving, and we are just one part of it, opening the doors every morning and staying until the sun goes down.
