Our office is located at 11 James Hickey Sarani, though most people still just call it Dacres Lane. We are up on the first floor in this old Kolkata building. If you know the area, you know it’s famous for all the street food stalls downstairs. It smells like chowmein and rolls all day long, which is a bit of a distraction when you’re trying to work on infrastructure projects. Omkar Infracon has been in this spot for a while now. The building has high ceilings and those old-style windows that let in the Kolkata humidity. We spend our time looking at blueprints and talking to contractors about various construction sites around West Bengal. It’s a lot of coordination and sometimes a lot of frustration when things don’t go according to plan. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit steep and creaky, but they’ve held up fine. We aren't the type to wear suits unless there’s a really big meeting. Usually, it’s just shirts and trousers and a lot of talking. Dacres Lane is always packed with office workers during lunch, so getting in and out can be a bit of a squeeze. We like it here though. It feels like we’re right in the middle of everything that’s happening in the city. We just keep our heads down and try to get the projects finished on time without too much fuss or extra attention from anyone.
