About Indian Railways – Metals & Minerals in Kolkata
Working out of Flat No. 6/C in Rail Minar gives you a different perspective on Kolkata. We are right on Judges Court Road in Alipore, which is a busy area with a lot of history. The building itself is an old landmark for railway staff. From our windows, we can see the heavy traffic and the big old trees that line the streets. Inside the office, it is a bit quieter but still full of activity. Indian Railways has managed affairs from here for a long time. The rooms are filled with the sound of shuffling papers and the constant ring of the landline phones. It’s not a modern glass-and-steel setup. Instead, we have high ceilings and those heavy wooden doors that have been painted over many times. We deal with a lot of administrative work here. It is a lot of filing and checking records. Most of us have been in this office for a decade or more, so we know every creak in the floorboards. We don’t have a fancy lounge; we usually just eat our tiffins at our desks while chatting about local stuff. It’s a very grounded place to work. The humidity can be tough in the summer, but we are used to it. It’s just a regular workday for us in Alipore 700027. We don't worry much about appearance, as long as the work gets done correctly.
