Indian Army

Our office is located at the Ballygunge Maidan Camp in Kolkata, specifically under the Office of GE (South). Ballygunge is one of those parts of Kolkata that has a lot of character, and the camp area is quite green compared to the rest of the city. We are part of the Indian Army, focused on the engineering and maintenance side of things for the southern part of the city. The office is an old-style building, the kind with big fans on the ceiling that hum all day long. We deal with a lot of technical stuff and maintenance requests, so there are always blueprints and work orders lying around on every available surface. It gets quite humid here, especially during the monsoon season, and the walls sometimes show the age of the building. We are a practical bunch of people. We don't spend time on long meetings or anything like that; we just see what needs to be repaired or managed and we get on with it. Most of us have been working in this camp for years, so we know every corner of the grounds. It is a bit of a slow-moving place in terms of atmosphere, but the work itself never really stops. We just keep things ticking along in our own way, making sure the infrastructure is held together without any unnecessary fuss or complicated procedures.
