Our office is situated on the 3rd floor at 3 Chittaranjan Avenue, right near Princep Street. This part of Kolkata has a lot of history and the buildings are quite old, which keeps us busy. Being in the lift business here means we spend a lot of time looking at old shafts and trying to fit new technology into spaces that were built decades ago. The stairs up to our floor are a bit steep, which is ironic for a lift company, but that is just the way these central buildings are. Inside, it is mostly stacks of technical manuals and boxes of electrical components waiting to be taken to a job site. We have a small staff who knows the ins and outs of the city’s many different lift systems. Usually, the phone rings and it is someone needing a part or a check-up on their building’s elevator. We don’t do much fancy advertising. Most people around here know us because we have been in this spot for a long time. The view from the window is just the busy street below with all the yellow taxis and people walking. It is a noisy place to work, but we like being in the middle of everything. We focus on getting the machinery running right and making sure it stays that way. There is always something to fix in this old city.
