Hindustan National Glass

Our place is at 2 Red Cross Place, which is an old part of the city with a lot of history in the bricks. Working with glass on this kind of scale is mostly about watching the temperatures and making sure the flow is right. It is a big operation but it feels like a small world once you are inside the gates. There is a lot of steam and the smell of industrial processes that you get used to after a week on the job. We have people who have worked here for decades, and they know the sound of the machinery better than anything else. The office part is separate, but we spend most of our time out where the actual work happens. It is not a quiet environment by any means. There is the constant clinking of glass and the hum of the cooling systems. Sometimes the paperwork gets backed up on the desks because we are too busy dealing with a shipment or a technical glitch on the line. We do not have fancy chairs or cool air conditioning in every corner, but the roof stays over our heads. Red Cross Place is a central spot, so we see a lot of different people coming through for various reasons. It is a solid place to work and we just keep moving along with the daily shifts, making sure the glass keeps moving out of the yard.
