Hindalco Industries Limited (Aditya Birla Group)

Down in Rayagada, we are mostly focused on the Utkal Alumina project. This is a big part of what Hindalco does here in Orissa, and things can get pretty hectic. The office is managed through the Vice-President of Projects, and it’s a busy place with people constantly coming and going. We aren't really set up for visitors who want a tour of a fancy office. It is more of a functional space for managing the engineering and construction side of the alumina operations. There is always a phone ringing, and we keep two mobile lines busy just to stay on top of things. We spend a lot of time out on the site, making sure everything is being handled right. It is a remote part of the state, so we have to be pretty self-sufficient. We don’t have much time for corporate talk or sitting around in long meetings that don't lead to action. We are more about solving problems as they pop up. The heat can be intense in this part of the country, but the work has to move forward. We are part of a larger group, but here on the ground, it feels like a bunch of engineers and staff trying to build something that will last. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a polished look. Most of the furniture is just functional, and the walls are covered in project maps and schedules.
