Girija Sales Corporation

Girija Sales Corporation is right near the Lal Bazar Crossing, tucked into Grant Lane at Number 1 A. If you know the crossing, you know how loud and crowded it gets with all the rickshaws and people rushing by. Our shop is in one of those old buildings with thick walls and high ceilings. Inside, it stays a bit cooler than the street, but it’s always dark because the lane is so narrow that the sun doesn't really reach the bottom. We have shelves reaching all the way to the top, packed with boxes and loose items we’ve been selling for years. There’s a heavy wooden counter at the front where we handle all the talk and the money. It’s got scratches and ink stains all over it from decades of use. We don't have a computer system that works right, so we do everything on paper and file it away in metal cabinets that squeak when you open them. Dust is a constant battle here because of all the traffic outside. We usually have a small radio playing old songs quietly in the background while we work. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the stock we keep. Sometimes it takes us a minute to find exactly what a customer is asking for, but we usually know which pile it’s in. It’s a busy, messy, and very loud place to work near the crossing, but it’s been our home for a long time.
