G.C. Dey & Co.

Our business is at 84, Ashutosh Mukherjee Road. It’s a pretty well-known street, so we get a fair amount of people passing by our entrance every day. G.C. Dey & Co. has a long history at this location. The building is older, and you can tell it’s been through many seasons. Inside, we have a lot of wooden shelves and some heavy old furniture that’s been here since we started. We don't really go for the modern look. We prefer keeping things the way they’ve always been because it works for us. Our day usually involves talking to regulars and keeping the stock in order. We don't use any fancy systems; a lot of things are still written down in notebooks. It might seem slow to some people, but it’s the way we’ve always done it. Ashutosh Mukherjee Road can be quite a mess with traffic, especially in the afternoons, but we’re used to the hum of the city. There’s a certain comfort in the routine of opening the doors and seeing the same faces. We aren’t trying to change the world; we’re just here to provide what we have and keep the shop running smoothly. It’s honest work and we take it one day at a time. No big speeches or complicated plans, just the daily grind in a place we know well. We usually close up around sunset, unless there is a lot of work left to finish up.
