G. Kothari & Company

We are located on the second floor of Jute House, which is at 12, Maharana Pratap Sarani. Many people still call it India Exchange Place, but the name changed a while back. G. Kothari & Company has been in this building for a long time. The stairs are a bit steep and the elevator can be a little moody sometimes, but it’s home to us. Being in Jute House means we are surrounded by a lot of history and other businesses that have been here for decades. The office is full of old wooden desks and stacks of paper that we try our best to keep organized. It’s a bit cramped, but it feels comfortable. You can hear the sounds of the street down below—honking cars and people shouting—but once you are inside, it’s just the sound of pens scratching and the occasional phone ringing. We don't go in for anything fancy or modern. We just handle our daily business, talk to the people who come in, and make sure our records are right. It’s a quiet kind of work compared to the warehouses, but it keeps us very busy. We take our lunch at the same time every day and usually talk about the things happening in the city. It’s a steady, predictable way to make a living, and we have grown fond of the old building.
