Our Kolkata office is located down on Selimpur Bye Lane, specifically in flat number eight. If you know the 11F area, you know it is one of those narrow lanes that has that classic, crowded Kolkata feel to it. It is not the easiest place to park a vehicle, so most of us don't even try. This is where we have set up the local base for Essel Mining & Industries Ltd. The building itself is just a standard residential-style block, and we occupy one of the units to handle the administrative side of the business. It gets a bit cramped when we have a lot of files and reports coming in from the sites, but we manage to make it work. Most of the staff live in the nearby neighborhoods or take the bus and walk the rest of the way through the lane. It’s a busy part of the city, always something happening outside the window, and you get to know the local tea stalls and the neighbors living in the other flats. We don't have a grand entrance or a receptionist waiting for people; it is just us sitting at our desks and getting through the work. The heat can get pretty heavy during the summer, but the ceiling fans keep the air moving enough for us to stay focused. We have been part of this little corner of the 700031 zip code for quite a while now. It is a practical space for a practical business.
