Electrosteel Castings Limited

Up on 186/1, Gopal Lal Tagore Road, we run the Electrosteel Castings Limited operations. This part of Kolkata has its own character. It’s a mix of old houses and industrial spots. Our building is one of those that looks like it’s seen a lot of history. Inside, it’s all about the metal. We have the casting pits and the overhead cranes that never seem to stop moving. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we get a big shipment of raw material in. The neighbors are used to us by now. We try to keep the noise down at night, but during the day, it’s a full-on workshop. There’s always someone shouting over the roar of the blowers. We don't use big fancy words to describe what we do. We melt iron and we pour it into shapes. Sometimes it’s pipes, sometimes it’s parts for bigger machines. The office is just a small room with a couple of old computers and stacks of ledgers. We prefer it that way. It keeps the focus on the actual work. Lunchtime is usually just a quick tiffin and some talk about the local football matches. We’re just a bunch of people making things out of iron. It’s heavy, it’s hot, and it’s what we do every single day without fail.
