I work at the DTDC branch over on G.T. Road in Howrah. Most people around here just know us as the place to drop off their parcels when they need to get something to another city. It is a busy spot on the main road, number 377/1/2 to be exact. We have been here for a while now. The office is not anything fancy, just a desk, some scales, and a lot of boxes stacked up against the walls. Usually, it is just a few of us handling the counter and sorting the packages that come in. Every morning starts the same way with the trucks arriving and us trying to get everything organized before the customers start showing up. It gets pretty hectic around midday when everyone realizes they need to send their documents out before the afternoon pickup. We deal with all sorts of things, from small envelopes to heavy crates that take two people to lift. Sometimes the computers are a bit slow or the printer acts up, but we manage to get the labels printed eventually. People stop by on their way to work or during their lunch break. It is a lot of manual work, checking addresses and making sure things are taped up right so they do not break on the way. We are not here to give speeches, we just handle the mail and the cargo. It is a straightforward job. If you live near Howrah - 3, you have probably walked past our door plenty of times. The fan hums in the corner and there is always a bit of dust from the road, but we keep things moving. We just take the packages, scan them, and send them on.
