We are up on the second floor on Sardar Shankar Road, right near the Sarat Bose Road Post Office. It’s an old building, and the stairs can be a bit of a workout if you’re carrying a heavy parcel. Being in Kolkata, we deal with the usual noise and the street vendors downstairs. Our office is a mix of cargo crates, envelopes, and a whole lot of logbooks. We aren’t one of those high-tech offices you see in movies. We have old fans, mismatched desks, and a lot of pens that always seem to go missing. Dealing with cargo means we see some pretty strange things packed in boxes. Some days are slow and we just sit around talking about the cricket score, while other days are so busy we don’t even have time for lunch. We handle the local pickups and the stuff coming in from further away. It’s practical work. We don't have a mission statement on the wall; we just have a calendar and a list of things that need to be sent out. The rain in the monsoon season makes things interesting when we are trying to keep the cargo dry while loading the trucks. It’s just a normal workplace with normal people trying to stay organized in the middle of a busy city. Most of the time we are just sorting through papers and waiting for the next delivery truck.
