Dlf Laing O' Rourke (I) Ltd.

Our spot is on Chandi Ghosh Road in Kolkata, down at 84/2/2. If you know the area, you know it’s got that old Kolkata feel to it. Dlf Laing O' Rourke (I) Ltd. has been operating out of this location for some time now. It’s a bit of a maze getting here sometimes with the narrow streets and all the local activity, but we like the area. The office is pretty basic. We’ve got some old wooden desks and a lot of files piled up on the shelves. Most of the guys are out on sites during the day, so it stays fairly quiet until the evening when everyone comes back. We don’t do much in the way of fancy receptions. If someone walks in, they’ll probably find us mid-conversation about a delivery or a deadline. It’s a lot of hard work, especially with the humidity here in the summer. We deal with construction and engineering things, mostly just making sure the pieces fit together. It isn’t glamorous, but it’s what we do. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the progress of the current jobs. There’s always something to fix or a plan that needs changing last minute. We don’t write big reports about it; we just fix it. It’s a practical way to run things. People in the neighborhood know us as the guys who are always busy. We just keep our heads down and work.
