Our little branch of Dhl Express India Pvt. Ltd. is located over at Flat 6, 12D on Baishnabghata Lane in Kolkata. It’s a residential-feeling area, so it’s not your typical big warehouse look. We’ve got Nilanjana looking after things here. Most people think of us as a giant company, but in this specific spot, it’s just a handful of us dealing with the local deliveries and pickups. The lane is a bit narrow, so getting the vans in can be a bit of a challenge sometimes, especially when the weather is bad or it's raining hard. We spend our days sorting through packages and making sure the labels are all correct. It’s a lot of standing around and moving boxes from one pile to another. We get all sorts of people coming in, from students sending off papers to families sending gifts to relatives far away. It’s interesting to see what people are shipping out. We don’t have a fancy waiting room or anything like that. It’s just a practical space where the work happens. We try to keep everything organized, but it gets a bit hectic around the holidays. Kolkata is a busy city, and being in the 700047 area means we stay pretty active most of the week. It’s just a normal day-to-day routine of moving things around and talking to people on the phone. We just do what we need to do to get the job done right.
