You can find us at Poddar Court, Gate Number 3. We are on the second floor, number 18. This building is a landmark in the Lal Bazar area. It’s always crowded and the elevators take forever, so we usually just walk up the stairs. Desire Overseas has been operating from this office for quite some time now. We deal with various goods that go across borders. The office is filled with files, old ledgers, and the sound of telephones ringing. It’s a classic commercial space for this part of the city. We don’t have fancy furniture or a modern lobby. It’s more about the work we do. We spend a lot of time on the phone with customs and shipping agents. It can be stressful when a cargo is delayed, but that’s the nature of the business. We are a small group of people who have worked together for a long time. We know each other’s families and we have tea together every afternoon. We don’t have a mission statement on the wall. We just want to make sure the paperwork is correct so the shipments move smoothly. It’s a lot of detail work. Sometimes it’s boring, but it pays the bills. We don’t really do any promotion. People in the trade know where we are. It’s just a practical, busy office. The windows look out over the street noise and the busy traffic below.
