Das Group Construction sits over here on Hide Road in Kolkata, specifically inside the Braithwaite compound. It is a busy part of the city near the docks. You can always hear the trucks rumbling past and the sound of heavy work happening nearby. Md.Qamar handles things here. The office isn't fancy or anything. We have some old desks and a lot of papers stacked up. Sometimes the humidity gets really bad, so the fan is always running at full speed. People come and go all day. Most of us have been around this area for a long time. It’s an industrial spot, so there is plenty of dust on the windows and the tea guy comes by twice a day. We deal with the usual construction stuff, looking at plans and checking on materials. It gets loud when the trains move through the siding. It isn't a quiet place to work but we are used to it by now. The tea is usually too sweet, but it helps when you have a long afternoon ahead. Most of the people working here live in the city and take the bus or a shared auto to get to the gate. It's just a regular workplace where things get done without much fuss. We spend a lot of time on the phone or talking to laborers. It is hard work but that is just how it is on Hide Road.
