Crescent Tannery

Our place on Tiljala Road is where everything happens. It’s 81/1, and you can’t miss it once you get close because of the specific smell of leather and work that hangs around the entrance. A tannery is a messy business, there’s no way around that. We spend our days dealing with hides, water, and the various processes that turn raw materials into something people can actually use. The floors are often wet, and everyone wears heavy boots to keep their feet dry while they work. It’s a physical job, and by the end of the shift, most of us are pretty tired. We’ve got some old machines that have been around as long as I can remember, and they still do the job just fine if you know how to talk to them. The neighborhood around Tiljala is busy, and we’re just one part of that local ecosystem. We don’t have a fancy front office; if you come to see us, you’re going to see the actual work being done right there in the open. We take the skins, we treat them, and we move them along to the next stage. It’s not a glamorous life, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a stack of finished leather ready to go out. We just keep our heads down and focus on the day’s quota, making sure we stay on top of the piles that come in.
