C/O Divine Poly Clinic

Beliaghata is a busy part of the city, and Abinash Chandra Banerjee Lane can get quite crowded. Our clinic is tucked away here. It’s called Divine Poly Clinic, but to us, it’s just the place where we spend ten hours a day. The building is older, with high ceilings and those heavy fans that click when they turn. We have different doctors coming in at different times, so the front desk is always a bit chaotic with people asking who is in today. I spend a lot of my time answering the phone and writing names down in a big ledger. We haven't moved to everything being on a computer yet, because the paper works fine for us. Patients sit on the wooden benches in the hallway. Sometimes it gets a bit hot in the afternoons, but that’s just how it is. We know the tea seller on the corner very well. Most of the people who come here live within walking distance. They know us and we know their family history. It’s not like those big private hospitals where nobody knows your name. Here, we talk about the local news or the price of fish while waiting for the doctor. It’s a plain, honest place. We keep the floors swept and the medicine cabinets stocked. It’s just a normal part of life in Beliaghata for everyone involved here. The lane is narrow but people always find their way to us.
