Our shop is at 63 Burtolla Street, right in the thick of Burra Bazar. If you’ve ever walked through these lanes, you know it’s a squeeze. C.K. Jain Jewellers Pvt. Ltd. has been sitting here for a long time. We deal with gold and silver mostly, and some stones when people ask for them. The building is old, like everything else in this part of town, but it’s sturdy. We keep the glass cases clean, though the street outside is always full of dust and people pushing carts. Most of our day is spent talking to folks who come in looking for something for a wedding or just to put some money into gold. We have a small bench for people to sit on while we show them the designs. It gets hot in the summer, even with the small cooler running, but we don't mind much. The noise of the market is just background sound to us now. We don't do much advertising; most people just know we are here because their fathers or uncles bought things from us before. We weigh everything right in front of the customer so there’s no confusion. It’s a straightforward way of doing things. Sometimes we have to close early if the rains flood the street, which happens more often than you'd think in Burra Bazar. We just lock up and wait for the water to go down.
