Children International- Sahay

Our building is at 101 Rastraguru Avenue in Kolkata. It is an old structure, but it has a lot of character and it works for us. We spend most of our time here working on the different programs for the families in the area. It is not a polished office with fancy furniture. We have some wooden tables and old fans that hum all day to keep the air moving. It gets very hot here in the summer, but we are used to it by now. Sahay has been part of this community for a long time, so people know where to find us. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall or anything like that. We just come in and do the work that needs to be done. Sometimes that means sorting through piles of records or meeting with parents who stop by. The street outside is always noisy with rickshaws and people talking, but inside we just try to stay organized. When the monsoon hits, the rain on the roof is so loud we can hardly hear each other, and sometimes the internet goes out. We just switch to doing things by hand when that happens. It is a very practical way of working. We aren't here to be corporate; we are just here to help out in the neighborhood as best as we can. There is usually someone at the front desk with a cup of tea ready to answer questions.
