Chandra Nath Dey

Our place is at 9 Gopi Bose Lane, right next to St Joseph's School in Bowbazar. It’s a very old part of town, and the lanes are quite narrow. You can hear the kids playing at the school during the day, which keeps things lively. Chandra Nath Dey is a name that’s been around this neighborhood for a long time. The building is old and has that classic feel you only find in Bowbazar. We don’t have any modern glass fronts or anything like that. It’s just an old-fashioned space where we do our work. Finding a place to park a car around here is almost impossible, so most people come on foot or take a rickshaw. The shop is filled with things we’ve collected over the years. It’s a bit of a maze inside sometimes. We like the history of the area. There’s a lot of character in these streets. We spend our days meeting people who live nearby. It’s a community where everyone knows each other. We don't try to be something we are not. We just open the doors and get to work. If you find the school, you’ve basically found us. It’s a simple existence, and we are happy being part of Gopi Bose Lane. The walls are a bit peeling and the floor is uneven, but it's our home and we wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We are just part of the local scenery now.
