CENTRAL TOOL ROOM & TRAINING CENTRE - Kolkata

We are based out of the Bon Hooghly Industrial Area in Kolkata. It’s a place where things actually get made. Our center is a mix of a workshop and a classroom. We spend our days teaching people how to use tools and machines, while also doing some manufacturing ourselves. It’s a busy environment. There is always the sound of lathes running or someone explaining a blueprint. The building is older, with high ceilings and those big windows that let in a bit of a breeze if we’re lucky. We aren't like a regular school with polished floors and quiet hallways. Here, your hands are going to get greasy. We have students coming in at all hours, and the instructors are usually guys who have spent thirty years in the trade. They don't have much patience for laziness, but they’ll help anyone who actually wants to learn. We keep our equipment in good shape, though some of it has been around for a while. It’s a practical place. We don’t have a big budget for decorations, so the walls are mostly covered in safety posters and charts. People come to us because they want to learn a skill that will actually get them a job. We just provide the space and the tools to make that happen. It’s a noisy, busy, and sometimes messy place, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We focus on the training.
