Carthage Clinic

Carthage Clinic is tucked away at 4 Khetre Das Lanes in the Bow Bazar area of Kolkata. If you know the Bow Bazar Police Station, we’re not too far from there. It’s one of those old Kolkata streets where everything feels a bit narrow and crowded, but that’s just the character of the neighborhood. The building has been here for a long time, and you can see it in the high ceilings and the way the walls are built. We get a lot of humidity coming in from the street, so the fans are always spinning at full speed to keep the air moving. Our daily routine is pretty straightforward; we open the doors, set up the consultation rooms, and wait for the locals to drop by. It’s not a quiet place because the street noise from Bow Bazar always finds its way inside. You can hear the trams and the shouting of vendors throughout the day. We spend most of our time talking to patients and writing out notes in their files. The clinic has a bit of a worn-in feel, which makes people feel more comfortable, I think. It’s not like those shiny new places you see in the malls. We’re just here in the lane, doing our work and dealing with the heat like everyone else. It’s a busy, noisy, and very real part of the city to be working in every day, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
