Working out of Calcutta, life as a photographer is mostly about timing and being in the right spot. Rahul Guha Photography is not about having a big corporate office; it is more about the gear and the places we go. Most mornings start with checking the camera bags and making sure all the batteries are actually charged, which is something we forget more than we should admit. The city is full of color and people, so there is always something to look at through the lens. We spend hours sitting at the computer later on, going through hundreds of images and trying to pick out the ones that actually look decent. The light in Calcutta changes so fast, and you just have to keep up with it. Our workspace is usually a bit of a mess with hard drives, cables, and old prints lying around. It is not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the heat makes it hard to carry all the tripods and heavy bags across town, but that is just part of the job. We do not do much of the fancy talking; we just show up and take the pictures. It is a lot of walking and waiting for the right moment to click the shutter. Every day feels a bit different depending on where we are headed in the city to find something worth capturing.
