Black Grapes Tradecomm Llp is based on the ground floor at 11 Crooked Lane in Kolkata. Being on the ground floor is quite handy because we don't have to wait for any elevators, though it does get a bit dusty from the street. The lane itself is exactly what the name says, a bit narrow and winding. We’ve been working out of this spot for a while now. We deal with trade and commodities, which means our day is mostly spent on the phone or checking the latest numbers. It’s a small office, nothing too fancy, just enough room for the staff and a few cupboards full of files. We call ourselves Black Grapes, which is a bit of an unusual name but it stuck. People around here know us by now. We don't spend money on fancy rugs or art for the walls, we just focus on the actual trading. It’s mostly about making sure the contracts are right and the goods are moving to where they should be. Sometimes it gets a bit loud when everyone is talking at once, but that’s just part of the atmosphere. We like being in this part of Kolkata, even if it’s a bit cramped. It feels like the heart of the business district. We just show up every morning and see what the day brings, then we do it again tomorrow.
