If you’ve ever been to Bagree Market, you know how crowded and busy it gets. We are on the first floor, shops C-115 and 116. The market is at 71 B.R.B. Basu Road, right in the thick of things. It’s a lot of climbing stairs and dodging people with big boxes, but that’s the charm of the place, I suppose. At Bhumika Variety Store, we have a bit of everything tucked away on our shelves. It’s a tight space because we try to keep a lot of stock on hand for our customers. Sometimes the stacks of boxes get a bit high, and you have to be careful when you’re walking around. We’ve been in this market for a long time, and we know most of the other shopkeepers around us. It’s like a small community inside a giant building. We open up early and stay late most days because there is always someone looking for something specific. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know to come find us when they need a particular item. The air in the market can be a bit stuffy, but we have our small fans going. We spend a lot of time counting items and talking to the regulars who stop by for a chat. It’s a noisy, hectic way to spend the day, but we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves in a quiet office. We just keep the shelves full and help people.
