Bhoomitra India Nidhi Limited is tucked away on the ground floor of 8 Sudder Street. We are in Shop Number 1, right in Ward 63 near the Park Street police station. Kolkata is always noisy, and our spot is no different. You can hear the traffic and the people walking by all day long. It’s a busy part of the city, but inside the shop, it’s mostly just us working on the ledgers. We have a small space, but it fits what we need. There is a lot of paper moving across the desks every day because of all the local members. We spend a lot of time double-checking numbers and making sure every deposit is recorded right. It is a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once, but we make it work. Living and working in the 700016 area means we are right in the middle of everything. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in and talk to whoever is behind the counter. Usually, it’s one of us who has been here since we started. We handle the Nidhi business the old-fashioned way, with a lot of face-to-face talk. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going. It is just a regular job for us, keeping the accounts in order. Sometimes we grab lunch from the stall next door while we wait for more forms to arrive.
