Our office is at 84/1 B Topsia Rd (South), in the south part of the area. It’s a part of Kolkata that’s always changing. You see new buildings going up while the old ones are still standing strong. Our space is tucked away in a building that doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside, it’s just a bunch of us sitting at desks with blueprints and stacks of files about different housing projects. It’s not a shiny corporate headquarters for Bengal Greenfield Housing Development Co. Ltd. We have a lot of maps on the walls and the smell of old paper is everywhere. The road outside is always busy with rickshaws and trucks. Sometimes the dust comes in through the windows if we leave them open for a breeze. We spend a lot of our time talking to contractors and checking on schedules. It’s a lot of coordination and sometimes things don’t go as planned. We have a small pantry where we make tea and eat our lunch together. It’s a friendly atmosphere, but we stay focused on the tasks. We’ve been part of the neighborhood for a while, so we know the local shops and the people around here. It’s just a place where we try to get the housing work sorted out. We don’t have a big reception area or anything, just a few chairs for visitors.
